Oakland fans were used to having a winning team, a team that wasn't afraid to spend money to win games. That all changed when a new owner bought the Oakland A's and wanted to win with the least amount of money possible. Oakland was struggling and fans weren't happy, which caused them to stop coming to the games. The fans, however, still wanted to come to games and were just waiting for a glimse of hope to compell them to the stadium. This hope came when Billy Beane became the general manager. In 2002, the fans in Oakland were ecstatic and were as hopeful as ever. Even with one of the lowest payrolls, losing was not an option.
